# Windows N: mfplat.dll missing
Windows N does not come with media features! You need to install the correct Media Feature Pack for your specific Windows version and build number:
# Latest versions of Windows 10
On up-to-date versions of Windows 10, you can install the Media Feature Pack through the Windows settings. Open the Windows Settings, then navigate to the following location:
Apps > Apps and Features > Optional Features > Add a Feature
A list of optional features will appear, search for Media Feature Pack in the list of available Optional Features, install it and then restart your computer. For additional help and more information about this, please visit the Microsoft Website: Media Feature Pack for Windows 10 N.
# Outdated Windows 10 (May 2019 update or older):
Older versions of Windows 10 require you to manually download the Media Feature Pack for your exact version of Windows 10:
- Media Feature Pack Download (page only provided in English by Microsoft)
# Windows 7:
- Windows 7 is not supported by Microsoft anymore. You need update KB968211 to add media features but Microsoft has removed the download page for it. Try upgrading to Windows 10 or reinstall a normal Windows 7 with media features.
Make sure to install the x64 and x86 version.
If it still shows the same error then you have installed the wrong version, try installing the correct version and restarting the PC. Should nothing work and it is still missing, your system files are probably defective, try restoring the system to an earlier state or reinstall Windows.
Please note
Every time Microsoft releases a major update to Windows 10, you must install the media feature pack again. If this undesirable for you, consider switching to a normal version of Windows as the other versions are always shipped with these features!
The whole point of Windows N is that it does not have media features. So if this is not what you want, you should not use Windows N.
